My research is focused on the design and implementation of generic neuronal simulators, particularly in the utilization of advanced multithreading and multiprocessing frameworks to improve performance and robustness of simulations. Currently, my work focuses on a NEURON-like simulator written in Python and C designed to take advantage of SIMD architectures present in graphics processing chips found in commodity graphics cards. In particular, I have designed the simulator in order to improve the performance of simulations of dense neural networks with many concurrent processes, such as the olfactory bulb’s external plexiform layer.
